In late 2010 or early 2011, not long ago, I had just gotten my free NEC Versa 2435CD. I was taking a look at the PC, and I eventually removed the BIOS chip from the machine. You might see where this is going already. I put it back in, but I put it back in the wrong way. I turned on the machine, and it just sat there, not booting. I checked the BIOS chip, and then I saw it...

A melted BIOS chip!

...it was quite scary. So, I figured, hey, what happens if I flip it back in the right way around?

The machine booted.

These things really are more robust than most expect, I suppose.
